Validation

Posted in movies, power of words, validation, viral video on February 11th, 2009 by Steve Bradley – 11 Comments

Ran across this short movie called Validation…funny, intriguing, touching, and a great story that illustrates the power of words, and the fundamental human need for recognition and affirmation. If you have 15 minutes or so to invest, it’s definitely worth your time:

It got me thinking about the way I use words - and how I might take advantage of the opportunities I’m given to recognize and call out the beauty and God-given strengths of those around me.

What’s your response to the movie? Have you experienced this sort of validation in your life? What prevents you from being validated, or validating those around you?

Cliff Notes Shawshank

Here’s a condensed version of one of my all-time favorite movies, The Shawshank Redemption, Jib-Jab style [note: this was an R rated movie, so plan accordingly]:

JibJab - Shawshank in a Minute

Pretty funny and accurate — but somehow loses something in translation… :-)

Any Shawshank fans out there? What’s your favorite moment/line?

My Bride the Movie Star

Not to be outdone by my own recent media exposure, my bride can now be seen in a Internet short movie, entitled Well Spent: A Short Film About Life.

Here’s a shot of her in action:

[She's the blond with the ponytail, not the goateed guy with the obviously lesser role to play, mind you.]

This film also stars our water cooler, who took a break from our kitchen to play a part in a critical scene:

And it seems like just yesterday when we got him out of the box and plugged him in…now look at him!

Here’s one last climactic scene, involving my wife’s name, which really blew me away:

For you visually challenged folks, that’s “Project Administrator - Lee Bradley” listed near the top…

While I’ve hit the highlights above, you may want to check out the rest of the film as well. It was written, directed, and a whole bunch of other stuff by my friend, Ben Ortlip (with help from his bride, and soon to be mother of eight, Lisa), for the fine folks at Chick-fil-A.

Ben’s company is called Kaleo Ranch, and they do great work — you can visit their web site here, but please note that it currently provides no useful information whatsoever. Seriously, no contact info, no links, nothing (maybe this is why they have nearly eight kids?).

If you’d like to give him a hard time about this, feel free to do so in the comments, and I’ll gladly pass them along ;-)

Do you have a story of media exposure you’d like to share?

The Power of Words

Posted in Auxano, giving, movies, poverty, power of words on July 22nd, 2008 by Steve Bradley – 1 Comment

One of our favorite sayings at Auxano is “words create worlds.”

Ran across this short film today that illustrates this more powerfully than I can describe…

The winner of the NFB Online Competition Cannes 2008, the film is entitled Historia de un Letrero (The Story of a Sign), by Alonso Barreda:

Have you seen this?

How important are the words we choose? What words have had an impact on your world?
