The Power of Words

One of our favorite sayings at Auxano is “words create worlds.”

Ran across this short film today that illustrates this more powerfully than I can describe…

The winner of the NFB Online Competition Cannes 2008, the film is entitled Historia de un Letrero (The Story of a Sign), by Alonso Barreda:

Have you seen this?

How important are the words we choose? What words have had an impact on your world?

Poverty in Suburbia

Have you heard this song from Jonathan Coulton — Shop Vac? Lyrics are genius — insightful window into a different kind of poverty that’s rampant in many suburbs…

[note: not completely family friendly]

Identify with any of the lyrics? Is being poor only about money? How do we tackle this kind of poverty?

Building Advocacy

Kathy Escobar’s post entitled, “make advocates, not buildings” got me pretty geared up (in a good way) — so much so, I clogged her blog with a couple of long comments…fortunately, she’s a gracious host :)

Raises some broader questions:

Are church buildings a waste of precious resources or tools for kingdom growth?

Are building buildings and becoming advocates for the poor mutually exclusive activities?

Would love to hear your opinions, stories, or experiences…
